ARISS - NASA sponsored special programme for Students.
I am very much delighted to say that H.A.L. Scouts Group Amateur radio
Club (VU2LKO) Lucknow is deeply devoted to explore Amateur Radio activity among
students and other interested people in state. We are licensed Radio
Amateurs (Generally known as HAM), when all means of communication fail Ham
Radio works. It is widely used in disaster mitigation to provide
emergency communication.
NASA and other space agencies including Canada,
Russia, the European Partners, and Japan
&
other international partners like AMSAT, ARRL, RAC etc.
have started an unique programme known as ARISS to fulfill Science, Technology,
Engineering, and Math (STEM) goals for students education.
ARISS (Amateur Radio on International Space Station) offers
an opportunity for students to experience the excitement of Amateur Radio by
talking directly with crew members onboard the International Space Station.
Teachers, parents and communities see, first hand, how Amateur Radio and crew
members on ISS can energize youngsters' interest in science, technology and
learning.
Over 1000 live school contacts have been made since 2003 in
the world. In India, 8
Schools/ Institutions only had participated in this programme till date.

Upcoming ARISS Contacts
as of March 29, 2016
- A telebridge contact via IK1SLD with students at National Soaring Museum, Elmira, New York, USA is scheduled forFri 2016-04-01 18:34:03 UTC 34 deg. The scheduled astronaut is Timothy Peake KG5BVI.
The National Soaring Museum sits atop Harris Hill, overlooking Elmira, New York, the “Soaring Capital of America”. The National Soaring Museum was established in 1969, and underwent expansions in 1979 and 1989. The Soaring Museum is home to the Soaring Hall of Fame, and the Soaring Society of America’s Archives. By collection, the NSM is the largest museum in the world dedicated to motorless flight. In 1972, the New York State Department of Education chartered the Museum as a non-profit educational institution. Its role as an educational institution provides youth with unique experiences to learn about the science and history of aviation. The Museum offers overnight soaring encampments for youth groups, and two summer camps: the Summer Soaring Academy, and Eileen Collins Aerospace Camp (ECAC). The Summer Soaring Academy is in its fourth year, and offers local students a hands-on look at aviation and engineering, capping off the week with a glider ride for all students. The Eileen Collins Aerospace Camp – named for the Elmira native who would become the first woman to command a space shuttle mission – is a weeklong adventure in aviation and space exploration. The week is filled with hands-on activities, trips, and rides in a sailplane and power plane. ECAC is one of the few in the United States that gives students an opportunity to fly in airplanes. This Harris Hill remains an active gliderport, with a strong Junior and Senior program. Several youth who attended this camp have joined the Harris Hill Juniors to become glider and power pilots themselves.

Cambridge Bay is a hamlet located on Victoria Island in the Kitikmeot Region of Nunavut, Canada. It is named for Prince Adolphus, Duke of Cambridge, while the Inuinnaqtun name for the area is Iqaluktuttiaq meaning "good fishing place".This ancestral region of Nunavut has been inhabited for 4,000 years. It is rich in archaeological history and blessed with abundant fish, seals, geese, muskoxen and caribou. Kiilinik High School is one of two public schools located in Cambridge Bay, Nunavut. The school has a population of approximately 200 students and provides education from grades 7 to 12. For this event the Primary School will pair up with the high school for the event.

Nestled in cosy, lush green and safe sphere is the prestigious education hub HAL School has inscribed a saga of success! Installed in 1974, the school has come a long way. The visionary founders dreamed of an ideal and prosperous institution whose torch bearers and pupils would write a history of academic excellence besides versatility in additional activities. Teachers burnt midnight oil and left no stone unturned and the students responded with equal dedication and brought laurels. Being a member of HAL factory, school frequently bore the responsibility of hosting memorable guests from Russia and celebrities like first Indian astronaut Wg.cdr Rakesh Sharma (Retd), President (Late) Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam etc.
The school not only organized but also participated in major events organized by HAL Factory year by year. The recent activity which has caught momentum is ARISS (Amateur Radio on the International Space Station) which is active all the world over and now has come as a great opportunity for HAL School to be the first in state (Uttar Pradesh) to contact with International Space Station and eminent astronauts, participate in seminars, presentations and workshops and associate themselves with radio academically. The School has been involved in many Amateur Radio activities like Amateur radio demonstration for students, JOTA for Scouts & Guides etc. There were 6 students who took the Amateur Radio licences during their studies in school.
Workshops by eminent counsellors/experts/guest faculty/agencies from various fields benefitted the students in personality development and career counselling/awareness/advice. Year by year the number of such sessions has multiplied and continues till date. The concrete and farsighted plans and strategies are being worked upon. Innovation, modification, changes and publicity efforts are on to make better the things. The improved education, basic facilities, performance of both teacher and taught, inclusion of teachers training/orientation programmes are in pipe line for makeover of the school.
